My version of the date night makeup!

I'm SO excited to finally dive back-in in the world of videos :) If you've been following the blog for a while you know that I've put out a couple of videos here and there but I never fully took the plunge. This week, I decided to spice things up and give you a different layer of content to add a little fun to the blog.

I've discussed many times how I do not wear a lot of makeup and I will be very honest here, I find it ages me a lot. If my skin was not acting up right now, I would most probably be wearing a tinted moisturizer, bronzer and mascara. Since this is not the case, I wanted to show you how I get ready for date night. I've been having a lot of trouble with my skin, as I've mentioned on Instagram stories (if you don't follow me, you should @lapiz_of_luxury) but in the winter, acne or not, I really enjoy wearing makeup, go figure! I absolutely love watching makeup tutorials but I will be honest, I find many of them focus on very heavy makeup that is not feasible for a regular girl. So, I decided to show you my version of a date night makeup. Hope you like it ! You can find all the details on the products in the video ;)

Testing out new foundations

Foundation is most probably one of the beauty products I love to try out. I'm always on the hunt for the perfect one and I let me tell you that I carry a good collection in my beauty stash. Only problem is, I'm not much of a heavy foundation wearer, I mostly use tinted moisturizer on the daily but I found the perfect trick: I add a dollop of foundation to my daily moisturizer and it becomes a tinted moisturizer ;) So clever einh! For the past couple of months, I felt stuck in a rut with my usual suspects, so I decided it was time to switch it up. I tested out these 3 foundations, a good mix between drugstore and higher end. It takes me a couple of weeks to build up an opinion about a product and I rather wait to fully test out a product before coming on here and telling you what is good and what is not. I feel like you on a long period of time, your skin has more time to react to a product because your it can be found in different situations.

Firstly, the NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint. I was sooo excited to try this product and I'm so happy I did. It creates an amazing finish on the skin. Please keep in mind that I have normal to oily skin and I'm pretty sure this product will be my BFF this summer. On the drugstore side of things, I tried out the L'Oréal Infallible Pro Matte foundation. The color matching was a bit tricky but all in all it's a good foundation just need to be careful as it tends to cling on dry patches. Lastly, the Maybelline Dream Velvet, that I apply with a beauty blender and it really offers a nice subtil finish but I really think the key is to either apply it with your hands or with the beauty blender to really let it sink into your skin. I'm always willing to try more foundations. Do you have any recommendations ?

NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation

This month, I tried the very coveted new foundation from the NARS family, the NARS All Day Luminous Weightless foundation. As you may already know, I am not much of a high-coverage foundation girl but once in a while, I like to have a good quality foundation in my stash, that will allow me to look presentable on those really bad skin days. Keep in mind that I have normal skin with an oily t-zone. Personally, I believe this foundation can be very heavy for dry skins, so make sure to get a sample and test it out for a couple of days before investing. The first time I tried the NARS All Day Luminous Weightless foundation, I was really shocked at how little I needed to cover my whole face. I later realized that the best way to apply this foundation, for my taste, is with the beauty blender. The moist in the beauty blender spreads evenly and amazingly the product whilst leaving me with a glowy finish. Something else I tried is mixing a dollop of the foundation with my moisturizer for a tinted-moisturizer effect, simply magical finish. I have never tried a NARS foundation and I think that I may have been officially converted. You can purchase the NARS All Day Luminous Weightless foundation at your local NARS counter or at your nearest Sephora for 57$. A definite must-try in my book. You can see in the following picture, the foundation applied on one half of my face.

3.1 Phillip Lim x NARS

With this morning's colder weather in Montreal, I knew the period where I decked out my classic fall colors was approaching very fast.

Recently, I had the opportunity to try the new collaboration between 3.1 Phillip Lim x NARS, an amazing range of nail polishes.
The 3.1 Phillip Lim x NARS collection features 8 limited edition shades including this gorgeous dark blue called Dark Room. The formula on this nail polish is so opaque yet so think and not gloopy. I am such a picky nail polish-formula-person, once it starts to thicken I throw it away.

The 3.1 Phillip Lim x NARS in Dark Room is the perfect addition to my fall nail polish collection. Let's talk about that brush; I have small nails but this brush allows me to swipe once and be done with it, it applies like a dream.

The Dark Room color is the perfect blue denim and this is with 2 coats, I would've done it with 1 coat, very opaque formula.
The 3.1 Phillip Lim x NARS nail polish collection retails for 23$ and can be found at your NARS retailers (Sephora, Hudson's Bay and Murale).

Did you start wearing fall colors on your nails ?

Classy White with NARS

Do you recognize the white vest...
For this look, I switched up my Casual White day outfit and added the sexy black skirt and the perfect black sandals, the easiest way out the door.
To complement the ensemble, I wanted to enhance my lips but without wearing a big bold red lip. I opted for the NARS lipgloss in Quito which gives me the perfect red glossy tint and the perfect pop of colour for an evening look.

There's always a simple way to recycle your outfit and brighten it up with a nice gloss, like my NARS pick !

Casual White with NARS

I love keeping it comfy on the weekends but there's always a way to step up your game with the perfect lip.
For this casual white number, I decided to add a pop of glossy pink with the the new NARS lipgloss in Easy Lover. NARS recently reformulated their lipgloss's and they are the bomb. They come in 7 new colours and 23 reformulated iconic NARS shades.

You can find the new NARS lipglosses at any NARS counter such as Sephora and the Hudson Bay.

New Nars Tools

This week, I was so excited to have the chance to try out the brand new NARS makeup brushes.

NARS is actual the first makeup luxury brand that I adventured in, after Chanel of course. I remember I bought my first powder foundation a couple of years ago. Since then, I have pretty much been a big NARS user, from their gorgeous Blushes to their Velvet Matte Lip Pencils which I die over.

This time I dipped in their world of beauty tools and have been using their new NARS Artistry Brushes. This collection is included 16 gorgeous brushes and I tried 4 of them.

(#42 Blending Eyeshadow Brush, #41 Diffusing Brush, #11 Bronzing Powder Brush, #20 Blush Brush)

One thing I hate about brushes made with natural hair is the shedding. With these NARS Artistry brushes I really did not see any shedding happening. They apply the makeup impeccably and are so easy to clean. The NARS Blending Eyeshadow Brush (#42) has quickly become my go-to eyeshadow brush to swipe one color on the lid and quickly blend it out and you are out the door.

I know these are not the cheapest brushes but if you want to invest in one piece, it's definitely worth it.

Check them out at your nearest NARS counter.

Current Beauty Lust

I am a list kind of girl, it makes it easier for me to organize everything from school, to the blog, to work. I write to-do lists to fit in all these aspects of my life but once in a while, a little to-buy list crawls itself in.
Here are the current beauty products that I am dying to try ;)

Anything on your Beauty Lust List ?!

NARSissist Limited Edition Eye Palette

Once I spot the Limited Edition mention on a new release, I am automatically sucked in....can you tell already ?!

How can you not drool over this gorgeous eyeshadow palette, the combination of the perfect neutrals that you can bring anywhere in one compact, what more can a girl ask for. I love it when a palette offers more than one matte eyeshadow and NARS aced it on that front.

NARSissist (NARS∙is∙sist) (n.) - lives by her own rules, not afraid to express herself in every look, mood or attitude. Effortlessly captivating with a bottomless makeup bag.

This NARSissist Limited Edition Palette can still be found on the Sephora website, at Murale, Holt Renfrew and Hudson's Bay for 85$, yes it is a little pricey but heck you won't need to buy any other eyeshadows in your life time :P

Who are we kidding ?!

Red Square

I had to show you guys my recent discovery, well it isn't a secret, it's the NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Red Square.
This color is perfection. I tend to go for more orangy-reds if I want a bold lip and this color is a gem. The formula on these is amazing, they do not dry out the lips like some other matte lipsticks. You know I already have my eye and many more colors.

And obviously my amazing Audrey Silver-Smoke necklace by the wonderful Jenn from http://www.ellandemm.com
You need to take a look at this jewelry store, all handmade by Jenn, classic pieces that brighten up any outfit. I obviously have a growing collection ;p

Saturday Hallway

Hello everyone !
I know I have been writing on here very sparingly and that's because I am currently finishing my internship and writing my final internship report/thesis.

Thank you for sticking with www.lapizofluxury.com, many posts will be up soon and new exciting collaborations.

It's been already a year that I have had the pleasure to do what I love and the growth and success of my blog and all your positive feed backs have only made me want to push harder and do more. Once again I want to thank you for all the support !

Now enough with the rambling and here is the outfit !

A casual Saturday night outfit for a restaurant outing.

Leather Jacket Style Exchange (old), Sweater H&M, Coated Black Pants LeGarage, Scarf H&M, Trainers ASOS, Handbag Louis Vuitton, Earrings (old)

And the LIPS : NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Luxembourg an absolute beauty !

Now, I have always been a big fan of tartares but never had the opportunity to go to a restaurant that specializes in tartares, so that's where we went on Saturday with two of our amazing friends. We went to Marché 27, a tartare Bar where you have a different array of tartares and tartare styles, something for everyone.  Drool worthy !

We obviously wanted to try everything on the menu, so the perfect choice was this tasting plate filled with different styles of tartares.

And who can say no to oysters !

Enjoy !

*My January 2013 Favorites*

Already a month has gone by and here we are again with some favorites !
This month, I must admit like most of us Canadians, I needed some color to brighten up my days, with the temperature being so up and down, I needed a lift me up.

Face :
First and foremost, to fight the gloomy days, I got so attached to this foundation, which is a drugstore foundation, the new L'Oréal True Match Lumi. I am an oily t-zone skin type gal and this foundation really worked for me. I powder my t-zone with some translucent powder and I am good for the day. This foundation really brightens up your face and creates a certain je-ne-sais-quoi that makes you glow all day !

The NARS Laguna Bronzer, a cult classic. This bronzer is very talked about by all the beauty blogosphere, but you definitely cannot go wrong, it fits most skin tones and the slight slight shimmer really enhances your face.

Oh Dior, Dior, Dior ! How can you fail me ! After falling in love with the Dior Amber Diamond, I just had to get my hands on the Dior Rose Diamond highlighter. The pink tint to this illuminating powder permits you to use it as a blush, to create the perfect flushed look.

I cannot talk enough about the Real Techniques brushes and this month the Real Techniques blush brush has been a favorite of mine. I do not find this brush useful for applying blush because the denser tip applies too much product, but for bronzer, its a whole other story ! The longer tip and shorter ends helps you blend your bronzer to perfection.

Last but not least for the face, I caved and after all the commotion around this product, I got my hands on the MAC MSF in Stereo Rose. A MAC MSF is usually used for highlighting purposes, but in this case, this product makes for a perfect blush.

Eyes :
Secondly, with the winter months, come the dark circles. Well, last month I decided to venture out in the world of corrector's and visited the Armani counter at my Holt Renfrew. The makeup artist tried the Armani Master Corrector in #2 on me and it was a done deal. Don't get me wrong, I love my Bobbi Brown corrector, but my under eyes were beginning to be a bit too dry and the cream texture was clinging on the dry bits. So, I conclude that the Bobbi Brown is perfect for the summer months and the Armani Master Corrector is prime for those dry winter months.

In conjunction with the Armani Corrector, I started lining my lower lash line with the MAC Chromographic nude liner in NW25/NC30. A nude liner will automatically light up your eyes and delete the redness you can get on those harsh  morning ! I honestly never thought it would make a difference, but it really brightens up your eyes and enhances your eye makeup.

Finally, I shaped my love for MAC and plunged in their eyeshadow world. I got myself a quad and filled it up with the following eyeshadows in linear order : All that glitters - Soba - Woodwinked - Patina.  No need to deliberate on this, you all know how MAC eyeshadows are, if you need a specific color, you will find it at MAC.

I hope you enjoyed my favorites, let me know yours !!!

Have a good week xox

Fall Makeup Wishlist

As soon as fall comes, we change our wardrobe and we change our makeup items. This year the season brings us deep burgundy's and berry colors, in the lipcolors, blush colors and eyeshadow colors.

Here is my fall wishlist makeup items, I need to pick these up asap !

The first makeup item I cannot wait to put my hands on is this fabulous berry-colored blush by Nars called Sin. You cannot go wrong with a Nars blush, they have amazing pigmentation and they blend so beautifully on your cheeks.

Then, I move on to Chanel, how can you even skip a Chanel product, I have been utterly obsessed by this brand from such a young age, and this year Chanel keeps on bringing out amazing collections. The holiday collection that is set to hit counters in the upcoming months has a ridiculous eyeshadow palette. A burgundy color that just caught my eye and that would look amazing as a smokey-eye.

Stella McCartney perfume. No words. I have been wanting this perfume since this summer, but thank God I waited, just look at this limited edition bottle, how can I pass this up.

Finally, my last product is pure perfection, it is the Rose Diamond by Dior. A fabulous highlighter, that can also be used as blush or eye shadows. I already own the Amber Diamond by Dior which is in the browns/neutral colors, and I use it almost everyday. Now, I cannot wait to add Rose Diamond to my collection.

What is your fall makeup wishlist ?

*April Favorites*

May is already here, where did the time go by.......

I've decided to share with you my monthly favorites at the end of each month, consisting of beauty products, makeup, accessories and clothing items.
It's basically everything I was obsessed with within the month - something I used everyday and couldn't get enough of.

So for the month of April, my obsessions are mostly beauty products and makeup items.

From left to right :

1- Bioderma Sensibio H2O solution micellaire : I cannot rave enough about this product, I was never the kind of girl that would use a makeup remover, I would wipe my face with cleansing cloths and afterwards, wash my face with cleanser. But oh no ! This baby changed my routine completely, it was a makeup remover with a water-base, hence the fact that it looks exactly like water in the bottle. This product is made for sensitive skin, it does not sting your eyes (which is key for me !) and removes all sorts of smokey eyes. It did not break me out and it is alcohol-free, fragrance-free and parabens-free. Bioderma banked the big bucks with this product, it's been talked about all over the beauty community.

2- Effaclar K LaRochePosay : If you know me, you will know I am a sold LaRochePosay customer. I am one to think that if you want to change your skin routine, you need to grab something that is dermatologically tested and recommended by dermatologists. This product changed the texture of my skin, it is targeted for people with oily skin with imperfections and is described to correct and transform the skin's surface with a principle of micro-exfoliation. This blabber means that the ingredients present in this cream will exfoliate your skin throughout the day and remove all the excess sebum and dry skin that can cause little acne appearances.

3- Origins Zero Oil Deep Pore Cleanser : This brand is my new favorite discovery, they make a wide range of products that are all made with natural ingredients and are parabens free. This cleanser really reduced my shine and the appearance of my pores, I use it in conjunction with my Clarisonic Mia (review to come) and I really enjoy the effect it has on my skin. In general, this brand is a brand to look into, they make various products from serums to eye creams and are very well renowned for their natural ingredients policy.

4- NARS Laguna Bronzer : This bronzer is not matte, it has a bit of shine but the perfect shine to enhance your blush. I had bought this product back in october and had put it down for a while, but this month I took it out again and couldn't put it down. It gives a perfect bronzed glow without making you look like a disco ball.

5- Caudalie Beauty Elixir : I will  not start to blabber about this product, because it is my all time favorite discovery of life (review comming soon). I will only tell you that this product is worth trying, but first you should go check out the smell, because it has a distinctive smell which does not please everybody. I use this Beauty Elixir all the time, before makeup, after makeup as a setting spray, before bed, and throughout the day to freshen up.

6- Bobbi Brown corrector : I could not put this product down, I wanted to keep it only for days that I felt a train ran me over and my dark circles were very present, but I just can't. I just can't. Please check out the review here.

7- NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer : I use this product almost everyday and I've really enjoyed the glowy effect it gives my skin. I am very happy I made the decision to purchase the full size product. Check out the full review here.

8- Real Techniques Buffing Brush : I don't know where to start to explain that you do not need any other brush in your collection than these Real Techniques brushes, they beat MAC brushes by FAR and are sooooo affordable. This brush is the perfect tool for the tinted moisturizer/foundation/mineral powder type of girl. You truly do not know what you are msising. Check out the review here.

I know this post is a long one, but I really wanted to describe why I love these products, so you can get an idea of their benefits if you want to go and purchase them.

Enjoy the month of May !

NARS Pure Radiant Tinted moisturizer SPF 30

First and foremost, I wanna start by saying that I am not one to wear foundation but I sometimes really need that extra bit of coverage to erase blemishes and redness. I used to always wear powder-form foundations such as the MAC studiofix or even the NARS powder foundation but the coverage did not last me throughout the whole day, for those yucky days.
I then discovered the world of tinted moisturizers. A tinted moisturizer is like having your moisturizer, your primer and your coverage all-in-one, but with letting your skin breathe, where as foundation usually clog up pores and can feel very heavy on the skin. The tinted moisturizer ultimately provides your skin with an almost bare effect but with still covering your tiny imperfections.
I present to you the NARS Pure Radiant Tinted moisturizer that contains an SPF 30 PA+++ providing great sun protection which is key for the upcomming summer months (which kind of sold me to be honest). This product is capable (so the description says) of reducing hyper pigmentation and acne scarring within 4 weeks.

I first started using the NARS tinted moisturizer about 1 ½ month ago when I attended the pre-release of this product at my TheBay counter. The makeup artist applied it and after a full day of shopping and running errands, my usually ''oily skin'' which consists of mostly an oily T-zone was now, not so oily. I went home with a pretty good size sample and used it for the following 2 weeks on a daily basis. I apply the NARS tinted moisturizer with the fabulous Real Techniques buffing brush which helps me create a wonderful non-streaky finish. I was very satisfied with this product because once applied it created a nice satin finish on my skin and also had a nice lemony smell. The satin finish effect was very important to me, because as one having an oily skin I do not want my skin appearing shiny like a mirror during the day. The oil-free formula is GREAT for combination to oily skin, since it does not oxidize throughout the day.

After my big size sample finished, I decided to go purchase this product full size at Sephora. NARS offers their tinted moisturizer in 9 different shades which covers a very wide spectrum of skin colors.

In conclusion, this product works wonderful for me, it provides very quick application in the morning, which you may now know that I loooove hitting that snooze button in the AM. One thing I want to mention is that it did not necessarily eliminate completely my hyper pigmentation or acne scarring but it did reduce a tiny bit their appearance. The key element that really made me swipe the card and buy this product is the fact that it did not make my skin create excess oil throughout the day, On the contrary, it helped control my oiliness and keeps me fresh-faced, even during a full 10 hour day.
But the NARS tinted moisturizer is quite an expeez product retailing at 49$CAN, which is why I suggest for you to hit your nearest Sephora and ask the salesgirl to match your skin color and to give you a sample for you to try out. (Trust me Sephora-girls usually aren’t cheap with their samples, wink, wink !)
Hope this review helps.
