The Centre Rockland has always been a part of my life. You may think it's crazy that a mall has a special part in someones life...but here is why. I grew up with my grandparents. Like most families, both my parents had to work and instead of going to daycare, I had the privilege of staying with my grandparents. My grandparents were AMAZING human beings. They gave my sister and I a type of love that only grandparents can give. They thought us how to be smart, strong, independent women, to never take no for an answer and to never let anyone stop us in whatever endeavour we wanted to take. My grandfather had an amazing brain. He was the smartest person I knew. He always made sure our homework were done correctly and we always had to have the best grades. Being the best was in his DNA but working hard was the most important thing for him. Nothing comes to you just like that. On the other hand, my grandmother was the free spirit, the creative, the artist. She was a seamstress and I was always stuck to her hip, so when she was working and creating, I was right next to her, flipping through Vogue.
Le Centre Rockland a toujours fait parti de ma vie. Vous pensez probablement que c'est absolument ridicule qu'un centre commercial occupe une place importante dans la vie de quelqu'un? Et bien, laissez-moi vous expliquer. Comme plusieurs de ma génération, j'ai grandi avec mes grands-parents, au lieu d'aller à la garderie. Mes grands-parents étaient des êtres humains remarquables. Ils ont donné à ma sœur et moi un type d'amour que seuls les grands-parents peuvent donner. Ils nous poussés à devenir des femmes intelligentes, fortes et indépendantes et de jamais laisser personnes nous arrêter dans notre chemin. Mon grand-père possédait une intelligence incroyable. Il s'est toujours assuré que nos devoirs soient faits et que nous obtenons les meilleurs résultats scolaires. Être le meilleur était dans son ADN, mais travailler fort pour obtenir des résultats était son slogan. Il nous a toujours appris que rien n'allait nous venir facilement et qu'il fallait toujours foncer. D'autre part, ma grand-mère c'était la femme à l'esprit libre, au grand coeur et l'artiste de la famille. Elle était couturière et j'ai toujours collée à sa hanche, alors quand elle travaillait toujours en feuilletant le dernier numéro de Vogue.

In the afternoon, my grandparents use to take us to the Centre Rockland for ice cream and of course, my grandma had to include a little shopping. She was a known customer at Browns and Holt Renfrew. My grandparents use to live right in front of Rockland, so you can imagine how ofter we would go. We use to roam the corridors all the time and the mall quickly became a family affair. Today, I can tell you that I know the mall by heart, I truly go there at least once a week, it's my go-to place. When Rockland approached me to be one of their fashion ambassadors for their fall campaign, I was beyond ecstatic. My only wish: that my grandparents could see that now, my face is plastered all over the Centre Rockland, the mall which I use to come with them week after week and that I worked hard to get here. They can see that I now have the opportunity to inspire young girls, to express themselves and feel confident through their fashion choices and to show them that hard work always pays off. I always say that I am the combination of my grandparents; my grandpas scientific side (I'm a biology teacher if you didn't know) and my grandmothers passion for fashion transcended to my love for this blog and my full-time job in fashion marketing.
En après-midi, mes grands-parents nous emmenaient au Centre Rockland pour un cornet de crème glacée et bien sûr, ma grand-mère en profitait pour faire un peu de shopping. Elle était une cliente régulière chez Browns et Holt Renfrew. Mes grands-parents vivaient juste en face de Centre Rockland pendant plusieurs années, donc, vous pouvez vous imaginer combien de fois nous allions au centre. Ce centre commercial est rapidement devenu une affaire de famille. Aujourd'hui, je peux vous dire que je connais le Centre Rockland par cœur, je m'y rends probablement une fois par semaine, car c'est vraiment un endroit où on peut tout trouver. Lorsque le Centre Rockland m'a approché pour être l'une de leurs ambassadrices de la mode pour leur campagne d'automne, j'étais tellement choyée et excitée. Mon seul souhait: que mes grands-parents puissent voir que maintenant, mon visage se retrouve partout dans le Centre Rockland, le centre commercial où je venais semaine après semaine avec eux et que j'ai travaillé très dur pour arriver à ce point dans ma carrière. J'espère qu'ils peuvent voir que j'ai maintenant la possibilité d'inspirer des jeunes filles et de leur montrer que s'exprimer et se sentir confiantes dans leurs choix de mode et leur choix de carrière est correcte et qu'il faut foncer pour ce que l'on désire. Je dis toujours que je suis une combinaison égale des personnalités de mes grands-parents; le côté scientifique de mon grand-père (je suis enseignante de Biologie, si vous ne saviez pas) et la passion pour la mode qui provient de ma grand-mère et qui m'a permis de créer ce blogue et aujourd'hui mon emploi à temps plein en marketing de mode.
